Twins manager Paul Molitor was asked before Friday’s game about the bobblehead giveaway in his honor.
“I haven’t seen it,” he said. “I didn’t even know they were doing one until I saw it on the board last homestand.”
As it turned out, the bobblehead looked more like comedian Norm Macdonald than the hall of famer in the Twins’ dugout. When someone mentioned how rare it is for the bobblehead to resemble the honoree, Molitor shook his head.
“It doesn’t happen very often,” Molitor said. “I think that’s part of the intrigue — to see how bad they can get it. Wait ‘til you see the one Milwaukee’s giving out when we’re down there (June 26-28). That one’s not too good.”
In the Twins’ version, Molitor is in his customary managing pose at the top step of the dugout. In the Brewers’ version, Molitor is sliding.
“It’s a bobblehead doing a headfirst slide, that’s all I can tell you,” Molitor said. “It looks like it’s doing some kind of 2 1/2 gainer into the pool.”
