MILWAUKEE β This morning, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled the first bobbleheads of Pope Leo XIV, who was elected the 267th pontiff on Thursday, May 8th. The Chicago, Illinois, native Cardinal Robert Prevost became the first North American Pope with the election. Shortly after the white smoke billowed from the Sistine Chapel chimney at the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV, clad in his papal vestments, stepped out onto the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica and greeted the world. The limited edition bobbleheads are being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum.
The first Pope Leo XIV bobblehead commemorates the introduction of Pope Leo XIV on the Vatican balcony at St. Peter’s Square on Thursday, May 8, 2025. The bobblehead features Pope Leo XIV waving to the crowd wearing a traditional white cassock, red pellegrina, a red and gold stole, and a pectoral cross that he wore when he was introduced as the new Pope on the balcony at St. Peterβs Square in Vatican City. The second Pope Leo XIV bobblehead features the smiling pontiff wearing a white cassock with attached pellegrina and girded with a fringed white fascia, a pectoral cross suspended from and gold cord and a white zucchetto. He is standing on a circular white and gold base bearing his name.
Each bobblehead will be individually numbered and they are only available through the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museumβs Online Store. The bobbleheads are $30 each plus a flat-rate shipping charge of $8 per order and are expected to ship in November. In addition, a limited number of bobbleheads of Pope Francis are still available through the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museumβs Online Store for $30 each
Born Robert Francis Prevost in Chicago, Illinois, 69-year-old Pope Leo XIV became the 267th head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State on Thursday, May 8th, 2025. Twenty-four hours earlier, 133 cardinals began the secretive, centuries-old ritual to elect a successor to Pope Francis, opening the most geographically diverse conclave in the faithβs 2,000-year history. A little over an hour after the white smoke billowed from the Sistine Chapel chimney at the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV stepped out onto the balcony of St. Peterβs Basilica and greeted the world. In his first words as pope, Leo told the tens of thousands of onlookers, βPeace be with you.β Wearing the traditional red cape of the papacy, he spoke to the crowd in Italian and Spanish, but not English.
A graduate of Villanova University, Leo is the first North American to be elected as the pope, the first pope to come from an English-speaking country since Adrian IV in the 12th century, and the first American and Peruvian (naturalized) pope. He is the first pope to come from the Order of Saint Augustine. He is also the first pope called Leo since the death of Leo XIII in 1903 as well as the first pope born after World War II. Expected to build on Pope Francisβ reforms, Leo spent much of his career as a missionary in South America and holds dual citizenship in the U.S. and Peru, where he served for roughly two decades. Pope Francis appointed him as Bishop of Chiclayo in 2014, and he became a cardinal last year. He most recently led a powerful Vatican office for bishop appointments.
βWe are thrilled to continue the tradition of bobbleheads celebrating the newest Pope with the unveiling of these bobbleheads featuring Pope Leo XIV,β National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. βBobblehead are the perfect way to show off your admiration for a given person, and with the excitement surrounding the first Pope from North America, we know the Pope Leo XIV bobbleheads are going to be very popular!β
