- Standing on a “Go Big Red” base in school colors, the Herbie Husker bobblehead is wearing his trademark denim overalls, white undershirt, and red cowboy hat while giving the No. 1 sign.
- The phrase “Go Big Red” is the ultimate rallying cry for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. It grew organically in the mid-20th century alongside the team’s official adoption of scarlet and cream colors, rising prominence as the “Big Red” football powerhouse under coaches like Bob Devaney, and passionate statewide fan traditions.
- The bobblehead is being released in conjunction with College Colors Day, which is celebrated annually on the Friday before Labor Day for the start of the new college football season and school year. The fall semester began on Monday, August 24th for undergraduate students. The Cornhuskers open the 2026 football season on Saturday, September 5th against Ohio at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
- Early University of Nebraska athletic teams wore gold, but the school changed colors to stand out from rivals like Iowa that also used gold. A student editorial in November 1892 called for a change to a bright, distinct look. Students voted and adopted scarlet and cream. Media and fans began calling the dominant football teams the “Big Red” as success surged nationally through the mid-1900s. After Devaney brought national championships and immense pride to Lincoln, that cemented the “Big Red” identity in sports culture. “Go Big Red” emerged naturally as a rhythmic stadium chant, shorthand greeting, and unifying motto for fans across Nebraska.
- “We’re excited to unveil this ‘Go Big Red’ bobblehead as part of our College Slogan collection,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. “As one of the most iconic and recognized college slogans, ‘Go Big Red’ gets Nebraska fans fired up every time. This bobblehead is a must-have for Husker fans everywhere!”
- The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, which is located at 170 S. 1st St. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, opened to the public on February 1st, 2019. The HOF and Museum also produces high quality, customized bobbleheads for retail sale as well as organizations, individuals, and teams across the country.
