Today, following Hoosier the Bison’s grand entrance in his new race car before Saturday’s home opener celebrating Indiana’s National Championship, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled an officially licensed, limited-edition Hoosier the Bison Indiana University Race Car Bobblehead. The special edition bobblehead is being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of Indiana University Bloomington.

Celebrating a national championship, mascot Hoosier the Bison made a grand entrance at the home opener by driving a custom IndyCar onto Merchants Bank Field at Memorial Stadium. Rolling onto the turf in an open-wheel race car, Hoosier the Bison’s special ride featured custom Indiana University branding and an IndyCar body style reportedly built over a modified cart chassis to celebrate the state’s rich motorsports traditions. The viral moment followed the mascot’s sophomore debut, continuing a high-energy trend after Hoosier famously skydived into the stadium for his initial debut in 2025.
- On May 27th, 2025, after several teaser videos posted on IU Athletics’ social media, Hoosier the Bison was revealed as the official mascot of Indiana University. Hoosier was officially unveiled at the 2025 home opener against Old Dominion at Memorial Stadium. Thanks to the effort of a student-led group, the original bison mascot made its debut at Indiana’s final home football game of the 1965 season on November 20th. Highlighted by a trip to the Rose Bowl on January 1st, 1968, the bison mascot’s long hiatus began after the 1969 season when student and fan support began to wane. The mascot’s homecoming was a result of the “Bring Back the Bison Act” passed by the Indiana University Student Body Congress on December 16th, 2024. In response to the student government vote to re-adopt the Bison as the official IU-Bloomington mascot, IU Athletics moved forward with embracing it as a symbol of both the department and campus’ spirit, passion, tradition, unity, and success.

- Last year, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled the first Hoosier the Bison Bobblehead as well as a collection of Indiana Hoosiers National Championship Bobbleheads.
