Sue the Construction Kitten Bobblehead Unveiled

MILWAUKEE – Today, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled the first bobblehead of Sue, the tiny orange kitten who went viral recently after being rescued from an excavator by workers from RiverReach Construction in Barberton, Ohio. The limited-edition Sue the Kitten bobblehead is being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Museum will be donating 10% of the sales from the bobbleheads to One of a Kind Pet Rescue in Akron.  

Positioned on a yellow base bearing her name, the Sue the Kitten bobblehead is a replica of the tiny orange feline who fancies the action of construction sites. The bobblehead is wearing a yellow safety vest and hard hat. The bobbleheads, which will be individually numbered, are only available through the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s Online Store. Expected to ship in February, the bobbleheads cost $30 each, plus a flat-rate shipping charge of $8 per order.

On Tuesday, July 14th, RiverReach Construction in Barberton, Ohio, shared a now-viral video of operating supervisor Chase Guello freeing a small kitten from inside a Komatsu excavator on a job site in nearby Leavittsburg. How the two-week-old kitten managed to get inside the heavy machinery is a mystery. In a follow-up video the next day, Guello shared photos of the kitten and concluded that the feline was alone after being unable to locate her mother and siblings. Two days after her rescue, Guello posted a video of the kitten drinking milk from a bottle, while announcing the company was taking a poll on what her name should be.

Guello’s mother’s friend, who works at One of a Kind Pet Rescue, a nonprofit pet rescue and adoption center in Akron, fostered the kitten for a few weeks until she was given to the company’s shop mechanic. “The kitten will go back and forth from work to his house with them every day until she’s old enough to be a shop cat,” Guello said. After a week, it was revealed the winning name of “Komatsu,” the brand of the equipment the kitten got stuck in. “Komatsu” was later shortened to “Sue.” Upon seeing the viral videos, Komatsu sent Sue a tiny hard hat and vest so that she could fit in with the crew that rescued her.
