- The bobblehead is being released in conjunction with the 37th meeting between the teams on Saturday, November 29th in Louisville, Kentucky.
- Standing side-by-side on a football field base that reads “WILDCATS” in one end zone and “CARDINALS” in the other end zone, Kentucky mascot The Wildcat and Louisville mascot Louie the Cardinal are wearing their respective uniforms while giving the No. 1 signal and holding a football adorned with their school logo. Positioned in between The Wildcat and Louie is a replica of the Governor’s Cup Trophy. The front of the base features the logos for each team.
- The Kentucky-Louisville football rivalry, also known as the Governor’s Cup, heated up after a 70-year hiatus in 1994. Kentucky leads the all-time series 20-16. Louisville won last year’s meeting, while Kentucky won the previous five meetings. From 1994 to 2006, the game was played on the opening weekend of the college football season. Starting in 2014, which marked Louisville’s inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Governor’s Cup became the last game of the regular season for both teams on Thanksgiving weekend, which coincided with several other ACC-SEC same-state rivalries.
- Though the teams first played in 1912, they only played six times until the rivalry was suspended after the 1924 season and wasn’t renewed for another 70 years. The rivalry resumed in 1994 with a new Governor’s Cup Trophy which has been awarded every year since. The game’s Most Valuable Player also receives the Howard Schnellenberger Award. First awarded in 2010, it is named for the man who played under Bear Bryant at Kentucky and was Louisville’s head coach when the modern rivalry began in 1994.
- “We’re excited to unveil this limited-edition Kentucky vs. Louisville Rivalry Bobblehead ahead of tomorrow’s game in Louisville,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. “This bobblehead will be the perfect way for Kentucky and Louisville fans, alumni, students, faculty, and staff to show off their school and state pride!”
- The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, which is located at 170 S. 1st. St. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, opened to the public on February 1st, 2019. The HOF and Museum also produces high quality, customized bobbleheads for retail sale as well as organizations, individuals, and teams across the country.
