This morning, in conjunction with the 2024-25 college basketball season, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled a first-of-its-kindn Iowa State Cyclones Top 25 Ranking Tracker Bobblehead. The unique bobblehead will let fans change the team’s ranking each week for many years to come. The officially licensed bobbleheads are being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of the Iowa State University.
Iowa State’s men’s team is currently ranked #5 in the AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll while the women’s team is currently ranked #8 in the AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll. Iowa State’s men’s team has gotten off to a 3-0 start and will take on the #4 ranked Auburn Tigers in the Maui Invitational on Monday while the women’s team has a 4-1 record and will take on the Drake Bulldogs in Ames on Sunday.
- Released in conjunction with the 2024-25 college basketball season, the bobbleheads are now available in the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s Online Store at this link.
- The bobbleheads, which are expected to ship in April, are $40 each plus a flat-rate shipping charge of $8 per order.
- Each will be individually numbered to 2,024.
- Standing on a basketball court base, the Cy the Cardinal bobblehead is positioned on a numbered block that can be adjusted when Iowa State’s ranking changes. Cy is also holding a basketball with Iowa State’s logo.
- Cy was born in 1954 when the Pep Council wanted something to build school spirit. Since a cyclone was difficult to depict in costume, a cardinal was selected due to the cardinal and gold school colors. A contest was conducted to select a name for the new mascot and the winning entry of Cy was submitted by 17 people. The first to submit the name, Wilma Ohlsen, won a cardinal and gold stadium blanket. Cy has won two national mascot challenges – the CBS Sportsline Most Dominant College Mascot of Earth in 2007 and the Capital One Bowl National Mascot of the Year in 2008.
