- According to Yaleβs website, Yale alum and former football and crew athlete Andrew Graves, a member of the Class of 1892, bought an English bulldog from a blacksmith for $5 and it was named Handsome Dan, becoming Yaleβs mascot in 1889. Yale was reportedly the first university in the United States to have a live animal mascot. The history of Handsome Dan is rooted in over a century of 19 different bulldogs who have held the Yale mascot title. Today, Yale is represented by Handsome Dan XIX, who took over as the schoolβs mascot on March 18th, 2021. In addition to being known as Handsome Dan, he was named βKingmanβ by his handler, Kassie Haro, after the late Yale president of the same name. Yale also has a costumed bulldog mascot.
- The 13th seeded Yale Bulldogs will take on the 4th seeded Texas A&M Aggies at 7:25pm Eastern Time tonight in Denver, Colorado, with the winner going on to face either Michigan or UC San Diego on Saturday.
