This morning, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled the first bobbleheads of University of Colorado’s live mascots Ralphie VII, and her predecessor, Ralphie VI. The officially licensed, limited-edition bobbleheads are being released in conjunction with the debut of Ralphie VII and the retirement of Ralphie VI. Ralphie VII made her debut on September 20th and was nicknamed Brandy earlier this week, while the retirement of beloved Ralphie VI was announced in August. The bobbleheads are being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of the University of Colorado Boulder.
- The bobbleheads, which are expected to ship in March, are now available exclusively at this link.
- Each bobblehead will be individually numbered to only 2,025.
- The bobbleheads are $40 each, or $75 for the set of two, plus an $8 flat-rate shipping charge per order.
- Positioned on turf bases bearing their names, both Ralphie bobbleheads are wearing their trademark custom leather headstalls that feature a large CU emblem on the front. The springs of both bobbleheads are in the middle of a turf-like base, giving the impression that the mascots are making their pregame and halftime runs around Folsom Field.
- On Saturday, September 20th, the University of Colorado’s newest live mascot made her debut as Ralphie VII took the football field ahead of the Buffaloes’ matchup against Wyoming at Folsom Field. The one-year-old American Bison, who weighs 700 pounds, was gifted to the university by the Beauprez Family, who are multigenerational CU alumni and owners of Eagle’s Wing Ranch outside of Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
- After weeks of deliberation by the current Ralphie Handler Team, Ralphie VII’s individual nickname will be Brandy after her favorite song. Her handlers noticed her affinity to the song “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl),” the 1972 hit by the band Looking Glass. According to the CU website, “In addition to enjoying the tune, Brandy, clearly a fine girl, strongly identifies with the lyrics.
- Brandy is the seventh bison to fill the live mascot role since 1967. Brandy officially joins the other line of individual Ralphie names including Moonshine (Ralphie II), Tequila (Ralphie III), Rowdy (Ralphie IV), Blackout (Ralphie V), and Ember (Ralphie VI). After four years of service, the University of Colorado announced Ember’s retirement on August 26th, 2024, due to her “indifference to running.”
- Ralphie is best known for running a horseshoe pattern around Folson Field prior to each half of home football games. She begins each run as the public address announcer exclaims, “Here comes Ralphie!” and typically leads the team as it enters the playing field. While commonly referred to as a buffalo, Ralphie is an American Bison. Due to their smaller size, reduced strength, and less-aggressive temperament, female bison have always been chosen as Ralphie as opposed to males.
- “We’re excited to unveil the first bobbleheads of Ralphie VI and Ralphie VII, the current and previous live mascots of the Colorado Buffaloes,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. “Frequently named one of the best mascots in sports, Ralphie’s iconic run onto the field has been a big hit with CU fans for generations. These bobbleheads will be must-haves for CU supporters everywhere!”
- The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, which is located at 170 S. 1st St. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, opened to the public on February 1st, 2019. The HOF and Museum also produces high quality, customized bobbleheads for retail sale as well as organizations, individuals, and teams across the country.
