Today, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled an officially licensed BYU Cougars vs. Utah Utes Football Rivalry Bobblehead following BYU’s 24-21 win over Utah on Saturday in Provo that featured a pair of Top 25 teams. When the “Holy War” rivalry officially began is disputed by the two schools, but there is no disputing that the rivalry is one of the best in college sports.
The bobblehead features BYU’s mascot, Cosmo the Cougar, and Utah’s mascot, Swoop, standing on a football field base with the school’s nicknames in the endzones. The bobblehead commemorates the rivalry, which is also known as the “Holy War.” The limited edition bobblehead is available exclusively from the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of Brigham Young University and the University of Utah.
- The bobblehead is now available for pre-order in the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s Online Store at this link.
- The bobbleheads, which are expected to ship in March, are $50 each plus a flat-rate shipping charge of $8 per order.
- Each bobblehead will be individually numbered to 2,025.
- The bobblehead is being released following the clash between the teams on Saturday at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, when the BYU Cougars scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to overtake the rival Utes resulting in the fans to storm the field.
- Standing side-by-side on a football field base that reads “COUGARS” in one end zone and “UTES” in the other end zone, BYU’s mascot, Cosmo the Cougar, and Utah’s mascot, Swoop, are wearing their respective uniforms while giving the No. 1 signal and holding a football adorned with their school logo.
- The two schools disagree on when the first game of the series was played, with Utah claiming the first game was in 1896 when they played Brigham Young Academy. BYU’s athletic site recognizes results starting in 1922. The six games played from 1896 to 1898 ended with a 3–3 split. Utah claims these six results in the all-time series records, while BYU does not. When those six games aren’t factored in the total, Utah leads the series 59-34-4.
- With the win, BYU has won three straight in the rivalry series for the first time since winning four straight from 1989 to 1992. BYU is now ranked #11 in the AP Top 25 and #10 in the AFCA Coaches Poll, while the loss knocked Utah out of the Top 25. BYU is now 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Big 12, while Utah is 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the Big 12.
- “We’re excited to unveil the first BYU vs. Utah Football Rivalry Bobblehead following Saturday’s big game between the rivals in Provo,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. “This bobblehead will be the perfect way for BYU and Utah fans, alumni, students, faculty, and staff to show off their school and state pride!”
- The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, which is located at 170 S. 1st. St. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, opened to the public on February 1st, 2019.
